14 thumbnail concepts in simple black and orange. This is an exercise in unique mecha silhouettes and body structures. I'll probably develop almost all of these.
Feel free to list your favs! A few share similar bodytypes to other mecha in my gallery.
Although it wasn't intentional they seem to fall into three categories: The top row are geometric spearmen. The middle group are more normal (for me lol) humanoid mecha. The bottom row + #14 are a little funkier.
GAH, they're all so good! Let's see, favorites...I'd have to say 6, 13, and 14. Six has great proportions and a body form that really seems to lend itself to cool, dynamic poses. I also think it would look awesome with the "head" moved forward a bit to give a more "hunched over" appearance. Thirteen I like for all the above reasons, plus it reminds me of a stripped-down, "sport" version of a Macross Destroid, perhaps with a bit of Steel Battalion thrown in. I'm digging 14 because I'm a big fan of non-traditional and multi-legged mech designs, especially quadrupeds and hexapods.
They're all so cool, though...I love that really sleek, minimalist design aesthetic of your mecha. They look so fast and deadly!
I still find it amazing how simple a concept sketch can be. All of these are very interesting designs, but the ones that really catch my attention are #'s 8, 12, and 14.
